We’re taking a moment to relax and reflect during our Journey to Elsewhere campaign. Our Director of Design, Zizi, talks us through what inspired her team when creating this dreamy-toned new collection.
What would you say we’re doing on our Journey to Elsewhere this month?
“For this month we’re imagining the cool, calm stillness of rich gardens belonging to Indian palaces; a change in temperature as we shelter from the heat of our May collection palette.”
What inspired this?
“Our inspiration was taking journeys to elsewhere – imagining our freedom to travel whilst in a restricted living time. Dreams of what we would see and feel on our travels once again.”
What should we look out for with the June colour palette?
“We have a beautiful, soft tonal palette with Chalk whites, Navy and rich Tan. The highlight pop colour for this month is Ocean (pictured above on Silk Street), which is a green with sea blue undertones. We drew inspiration from tranquil spaces and the lushness of the greenery within the gardens.”
What textures were you drawn to for this collection?
“Soft and sumptuous leathers, and the stunning colouration of our natural veg tanned leathers also. The versatility of the colours on different bases allowed us to work on both structured and soft styles.”
Tell us about your favourite new styles
“I’m loving some of our new softly gathered styles especially the Summerstown ruffle strap and the Furrows Lane. Casual styling has become increasingly important to us all in the past year and these two looks offer brilliant work to weekend versatility.”
What inspired Morris Road?
“Morris Road is a fantastic travel collection – as part of our non-leather range – in durable canvas that has really broad appeal. The styling works brilliantly for travel and everyday. We were inspired by vintage travel bags in every aspect of their creation, from the fabric, to the corner patches to the fun and contemporary twist in the stripe straps.”
How did you create the new paisley print featuring Radley dog?
“All of our prints are designed in house by our hugely talented Design team. Radley dog is an intrinsic part of our prints and patterns so it was just a matter of finding a suitable home for him. Paisley is an emerging trend that we felt was right for our vintage travel inspiration. And Radley wears them so well. It’s showcased to perfection on Liverpool Street 2.0 .”
There’s quite a few backpacks in this collection – is this a shape you love for summer?
“I do. It’s a shape we have seen interest rise in over the past few seasons as we all embrace the ‘hands-free’ move to easy to wear accessories. We now offer a wide range of shapes and functionality across both our leather and non-leather collections and these are perfect for trips, days out, commuting, the gym – just about every situation. Both of the silhouettes above are new additions to our bestselling Dukes Place.”
How will you style your favourite bag from the collection?
“My favourite style is Summerstown with the ruffle handle. As it’s been a while since we’ve enjoyed being able to go out and wear something nicer, I’ll be styling it with a flowy dress and some wide strap sandals. I love that it’s so versatile and will go with just about any variation of colour and print too. Be it gingham, floral or even a solid bright or dark colour. I’ll be able to wear it with denim too for a vintage look.”
How do you find a moment of calm in a busy day?
“I get up before my family and enjoy the quiet at the start of my day, that’s the only time I’m guaranteed not to be interrupted. I’ll read, plan and daydream for an hour or so before I get into my day, enjoying some time for me.”
We love the new Radley Responsible designs – which of the Maple Cross bags will you be wearing this month?
“I love our totes. I’m either a large tote or small crossbody kind of girl, so I’d definitely opt for the large shape for my everyday things I need to take to and from the office, and then the Summerstown to house my essentials.”
Zizi has a special gift for tempting us into buying the entire collection. Thanks Zizi, we can’t wait to see these designs arriving throughout the month. Keep an eye on our New In section.
Perhaps you’re looking for some hotter shades for summer? We’ve got plenty of those waiting for you in our May collection.
