Spring is in bloom and we’re welcoming warmer days with a rosy new outlook. As our Journey to Elsewhere continues, we’re introducing new shapes, fresh prints and intricate details.

Together with modern interpretations of Radley London favourites – including a handcrafted appliqué Liverpool Street 2.0 – the new March designs bring joy to every adventure.

The design we’re most excited about? Our much-anticipated spring picture bag, set on the serene shoreline of South Devon. It’s sure to lift spirits and have you dreaming of coastal escapes.

We caught up with Zizi, our Head of Design, to discover how nature has influenced the new collection.

What was your inspiration?

“We thought about how we’d feel when the lockdown eases. How we’d embrace our freedom and travel to shores further away, taking in the warmer air as the season changes.”

There’s a clear colour shift with this month’s collection – why did you choose these shades?

“We took inspiration from coastal beaches and the pretty pastel tones that the warm weather brings. We imagined easy walks over windswept dunes, surrounded by marram grass, the sparkling sea and the colours that draw in from the late sun.”

How did nature influence your designs?

“We thought of nature awakening from winter, bringing new life and new beginnings. At this time of year, florals are always key to our prints and decorations. This month, we softened our signature geometric print by layering it with some beautiful florals that we designed in-house. These pieces – along with our stunning Deco Floral designs – create a feminine, retro feel for the season.”

From appliqué to cut out detailing – there are lots of new embellishment in this collection. How do you approach this?

“Once we’ve created our designs, we consider the techniques that can be used to craft them – starting firstly with print and then handcrafted details. We work closely with our suppliers to translate our artworks into the beautiful appliqué and hand-punched designs that you’ll discover in the collection. We always aim to create showstoppers and Liverpool Street 2.0 seemed the perfect canvas to showcase these skills.”

What are your favourite pieces from the new collection?

“I have too many as always! Our Mill Bay styles in their gorgeous pastels look amazing – I think they’ll be new Radley London classics. For me, the embellished Grange Lane bag is really special; I love the stunning deco floral as it highlights the craftsmanship Radley London is known for.”

The collection is about embracing serenity – where do you find peace?

“Anywhere near the sea, whether at home or abroad. The serenity of immense seascapes instantly relaxes and revitalise me.”

What was your inspiration for this season’s picture bag, launching later in the month?

“We were inspired by travels to British coasts. Our research led us to Burgh Island in South Devon, made famous by Agatha Christie and its grand Art Deco hotel. We loved the carefree feeling of getting away and the beautiful retro charm of the hotel’s décor.”

What makes the design special?

“This season, the picture bag has a new revitalised look – the vintage dog and pastel coastal setting really brings the retro theme to life. The detailing on this style is simplistic and sophisticated and the beautiful flecks of metallic work so well with the pretty colour palette.”

Who should the picture bag be gifted to?

“Anyone with a sense of fun – our vintage Radley character is full of charm!”
