The emblematic Scottie dog, the confident use of colour, the mastery of appliqué. These are but a few of the trademarks for which Radley has become recognised, but perhaps none quite so brand-defining as our iconic collection of Picture Bags. It is therefore with the greatest of pleasure (and generous serving of excitement) that the Radley team unveils our latest creation, just in time for Christmas. Without further ado, meet the aptly festive Stargazing Picture Bag.
Turn back the clock to 2002 when our first-ever Picture Bag was released – Beach Hut. A classic tote with a British beach hut scene was the figurehead for our spring/summer collection, shortly followed by a penguin mother and baby on a drifting iceberg for autumn/winter. Many Picture Bags later, – each one involving up to 30 different craft processes – they have become one of our best-selling pieces across the whole range.
While some people like to have just the occasional Picture Bag in their closet, others see it as their personal style statement, not wanting to leave the house without their faithful Picture Bag companion at their side.
Three such fervent fans are Natalie (who has one of every Picture Bag we’ve ever produced), and mother and daughter devotees Philippa and Lynn who first discovered our Picture Bags at our Birmingham store in 2002. They are now the proud owners of over 40 Radley Picture Bag designs. Hear their stories here:
The thoughts that shape and inspire every Radley bag or accessory are always multi-layered and re-flective of the seasons. This was entirely the case with the Stargazing Picture Bag where our in-house design team were taken by the idea of our little Radley dog and his friends, nestled around a log fire, gazing into the starry winter sky at shooting stars and of course, dog-shaped constellations blinking back at them. With their Fair-isle scarves wrapped tightly around their furry necks, they’re a picture (no pun intended) of festive cosiness, capturing Christmastime’s sense of magic.
Christmas is a time for presents that are extra special, unique and memorable, so what better way to fulfil all three Christmas criteria than a keepsake Picture Bag?
Our new Stargazing handbag even features our signature appliqué and hand-drawn detailing, with a sprinkling of gold foil – because it’s Christmas after all.
To celebrate the launch of our limited-edition Stargazing handbag, we ran a competition to design – and win – your very own picture bag.
Taking inspiration from previous keepsakes, we asked you to sketch, collage or digitally illustrate your most coveted creation.
All that mattered was that it featured our Radley Scottie dog and reflected our brand values of Britishness, creativity and playfulness.
Ranging from whimsical underwater worlds to fairytale festivals, the designs exceeded our expectations – and made picking two winners harder than we ever imagined.
After four weeks and close to 100 entries, we are happy to announce the winners are Lynsey Ravetta and Vanessa Carrillo.
Both ladies will be meeting our Head of Design to bring their handbags to life – make sure to keep your eyes peeled to see the final creations.
